Application & Performance
The synthetic absorbable surgical suture PGA is selected for use based on the patient's condition, the size of the wound and tissues, and the surgeon's experience and technique. After implantation, a moderate local tissue inflammation is observed, characteristic of the foreign body reaction, followed by gradual encapsulation of the suture by fibrous connective tissue. This is followed by a gradual loss of the suture's strength and mass due to its absorption via hydrolysis, in which the polymer breaks down into glycolic acid, which is absorbed and metabolized by the body.
