What do users say?
AI-generated summary
Users rate the transceiver positively, mainly praising its compact, portable size and clear audio reception. They also mention good battery life and its practicality for airsoft. However, some note weak performance on VHF frequencies, and one user is unsure how to configure transmission settings.
Baofeng UV-5DR Mini – Small in appearance, honest in the field
The Baofeng UV-5DR Mini is a very small and portable UHF/VHF handheld, with a size that fits perfectly in a pocket or for EDC. Its battery lasts relatively well for its size and overall the device is practical and functional.
Transmission Power:
High: 5W
Low: 1W
Sound:
The microphone and speaker are satisfactory, not impressive but they do their job properly.
Handling & ergonomics:
It has two PTT buttons, one for the upper and one for the lower frequency
The clip on the back is quite good and stable
It takes Kenwood-type earphones
Extras:
FM radio
Flashlight (typical, not very strong – purely auxiliary)
Battery – Charging:
1600mAh – 11.84Wh
Charging via USB Type-C, with a simple mobile charger
Antenna – Connector:
The device's connector is SMA female
The antennas it uses are SMA male
Programming – OLA App (Play Store):
There is the OLA App, through which you can connect the Baofeng and very easily program:
frequencies
offset
CTCSS / DCS tones
channel names
Anything that can be set from the device can also be set from the app, but through the app everything is much easier and faster.
Useful shortcuts (pressed key):
Menu: activates timer function
8: change power Hi ↔ Low
#: scan stored channels
*: lock keyboard
Exit: scans the tone of the interlocutor on the frequency you are on
Blue Scanning key:
Scans UHF/VHF to find the frequency of another transceiver. By pressing on the other's frequency, the Baofeng copies the frequency and tone. It works very well and so far always succeeds.
Performance – Repeaters:
It opens repeaters, specifically variables in Parnitha, Penteli, and Ymittos, and generally performs quite well for its size.
High: 5W
Low: 1W
Extras:
offset
