Description

The theatrical and at the same time poetic monologue of the multi-awarded Luxembourgish author Jean Portante begins as a highly personal confession, but in the course it intersects with the history of humanity: "Borders are something artificial, they are not natural. They exist because we lost or won a war. We raise borders, we say that is foreign, this is ours, and I find all this absurd because humanity is one."

"Borders constantly feed the narrative and ask memory to speak about rooting and uprooting, multiple origins but also acquired offshoots, identity. […] Portante writes a kind of family autobiography in which, however, he frames the anonymous biographies of all refugees, from which some personal testimonies stand out, passing constantly from the imaginary to the real and back again, creating a web of thoughts and feelings that captivate the reader," Maria Papadima mentions in her introductory note.

This collective translation is signed, under the guidance of Maria Papadima, by graduates of the Postgraduate Program of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens "Greek-French Studies in Literature, Culture, and Translation."
