Sofia Athanasopoulou was born in Athens in 1984. She studied in the Department of History and Archaeology at the University of Ioannina, where she completed her postgraduate diploma with distinction. She is currently pursuing her doctoral studies, specializing in the study of the integration of klephts and chieftains into the newly established Greek state and their historical trajectory through Memoirs and other primary and archival material. At the same time, she works as a secondary education teacher in the private sector. With many years of experience in teaching History, she promotes critical thinking and a deeper understanding of Greek history among her students.
Her research interests include the pre-revolutionary and revolutionary period, as well as the social and cultural history of Greece, with a focus on internal conflicts and collective memories. Her interest in the social conflicts of 1821 led her to study the Memoirs as sources of historical truth and valuable testimonies of the collective consciousness of the modern Greek state. Her research path focuses on the importance of personal testimonies in shaping national identity.
