  • A very good lens, very beautiful bokeh and overall subject separation from the background, very easy to use, and lightweight and portable. It allows the camera to shoot at night without high ISO values thanks to its maximum aperture of f1.7, but because it is a DX lens that will probably be mounted on an APS-C camera, it may limit your field of view compared with, for example, a Viltrox AF 25mm f/1.7 Air Wide Angle, which theoretically—I’m not speaking from experience, as I don’t own it—would give you a wider field of view since it has 10 mm less focal length. With the Nikkor, however, given its 35 mm focal length and the x1.5 crop factor that applies to most crop-sensor APS-C cameras, you’ll have an effective focal length of 52.5 mm, which is excellent for a macro subject, for example, but not so much for a panoramic photo where you need a wide field of view. In short, an excellent choice for macro, night shots, portraits, and nature, where it works flawlessly with my Nikon Z50II and produces very high-quality photos with very beautiful subject separation (bokeh) and negligible chromatic aberration (at least in all the photos I’ve taken so far). The sample photo has not been edited; I’ve only adjusted the exposure.
