My voice no longer needs my body...
Even if I am called Billie Holiday alone.
Billie Holiday, such was her fate, lived many lives. Lives that were simultaneous, intersecting, tangled like the threads of a skein, with so many unimaginable delights to share with everyone, with that laughter that erupted against the backdrop of death, with her wild passion for men and with the energy to live them all, all those lives, a thousand times each.
More than a hundred years after her birth, Billie Holiday’s unparalleled voice continues to enchant, and her fate continues to fascinate as few others do.
