This book is dedicated to the memory of the "Team of Scholars for a Democratic Constitution," in which I had the honor to participate in 1974, alongside my old teachers and later friends. There was a sense of collectivity and the shaping of common proposals, which we first published in newspapers and later in this light blue booklet. Above all, there was the feeling that we were serving an urgent political need for the good of democracy and the country.
With the fall of the dictatorship, it was natural for me to focus on the new Constitution, abandoning any other activity. I saw this engagement morally as a duty and psychologically as a "passion," which certainly justified the many costs involved. The worries and struggles I experienced for an entire year have broader interest insofar as they shed light on aspects now forgotten or even initially unknown.
This is also why the drafting experience of 1974-75 is so mythologized today without basis. This is how this collection of memoirs came about. Not only as a personal testimony but also as a "corrective lesson"... However, beyond its value as a highly detailed personal account of a critical historical juncture, the book offers an opportunity for broader reflection on the drafting or revision of a Constitution – a reflection that will undoubtedly be relevant in the coming period.
