Description

The CH-47 Chinook is a heavy transport helicopter of American production, designed during the Cold War and still manufactured by Boeing Helicopters. Its prototype flight took place in 1961 and it entered service in 1962.

The CH-47F version has the following features:

  • Total length: 30.1 meters
  • Rotor diameter: 18.3 meters
  • Engines: Two Lycoming T55-GA-714A engines with 4733 HP each
  • Maximum speed: about 315 km/h in horizontal flight
  • Rotor system: Two rotors - tandem and tail-less

The development of the CH-47 Chinook began in the late 1950s, when the US Army decided to replace the CH-37 Mojave with a new helicopter, more modern and with improved performance.
