Description

The North American P-51 Mustang is an American single-engine fighter and attack aircraft with long range, featuring classic tail and all-metal construction. Its prototype first flew on October 26, 1940. The P-51 Mustang has gained fame as one of the best, if not the best, fighters of World War II. Replacing the Allison V-1710-39 engine from the initial design with a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine (P-51 Mustang Mk.Ia version) brought the Mustang to perfection.

The single-seat fighter impressed with:

  • Maximum speed
  • Range
  • Agility
  • Powerful armament

The combination of all the most important parameters for aircraft evaluation made the Mustang effective in every role assigned to it, such as:

  • Achieving air superiority
  • Escort missions
  • Reconnaissance missions
  • Attacking ground targets

The design excellence is evidenced by the fact that the Mustang remained in active service until the 1970s.
