A genuine, illustrated history of how Germany fought to dominate the North Sea during the early months of World War II and to bring naval warfare to the shores of Britain. Britain’s war economy depended not only on Atlantic War Transports but also on dominance in coastal waters. Six days a week, coal-laden ships departed from Scotland and northern England, requiring 40,000 tons weekly just for London.

The disruption of these routes, as well as the planning of strategic and naval maneuvers, was the responsibility of the German Command in the North Sea. Here, Krigermain expert Lawrence Patterson offers a unique study of Germany’s fierce war in the North Sea from a strategic and operational perspective. Although famous for daring S-boats, the North Sea hosted a variety of ships from cruisers (briefly) to converted fishing vessels.

Destroyers, torpedo boats, and minelayers set up extensive minefields near the coast, in front of the Roman Naval Force. It also explores the defenses of the command, with the many Krigermain troops, artillery positions, anti-aircraft units, and marine groups. The German coastal forces engaged with British forces at Dunkirk, and with the fall of France, the war extended along the entire coast.
