Its 35 mm focal length is suitable for street, landscape, reportage, fashion, and portrait photography. The STM motor supports precise focus tracking with minimal focus breathing, making it useful for video recording.

The optical design comprises 16 elements in 11 groups, including three aspherical elements, two ED elements, and one HRI element. The 13-blade aperture creates smooth bokeh. The physical aperture ring can be declicked for silent adjustment, while the iris lock, FN, and AF/MF buttons provide additional control options.
