Opening the book, countless small details from the life of an animated hour unfold before our eyes. How do the usual days of people and animals pass? What does an illustrated book mean? Telling what you see, what happens with the characters, is not an easy task, even for adults.

In the hour of Nowhere, autumn has arrived. At the House of Culture, the Pumpkin Festival is organized; in the central square, people gather, young and old, at the Grape Ball. Dance, music, lantern parade, official opening of the garden – so many things happen! In the volume Autumn, Rotraut Susanne Berner illustrates new events with insects, familiar acquaintances, young brides on a wedding journey, or escaped and found domestic animals.

How do we "read" the volume Autumn? On the back cover, we immediately notice Riri the parrot, who is preparing to escape through the window. Let's open the book to the first page and look for him. But the effort is in vain: Riri cannot be found! We then notice a black cat staring intently at something. What could it have seen? Look, the cat is even winking at the parrot! Oh, but this is quite a dangerous game, as cats, if given the chance, catch all kinds of birds. So let's move on to the next pages, as the story is becoming very interesting. Maybe it would be a good idea to follow the cat, as she is surely on the parrot's trail.

Flipping through the pages one by one, we discover the storyline together with the child, inventing events alongside them. Thus, new and new scenarios arise with the characters appearing on the back cover of the book. Throughout this time, the child asks questions, imagines situations, discusses with the adult, searches for details in the book, discovers relationships between characters, elements, and new or already known situations.

The author is among the most well-known illustrators of children's books. The collection – consisting of five volumes, each dedicated to a season and a final volume dedicated to the Summer Night – is recommended for children from 2 years old up to primary school age, but also for parents and grandparents.
