Nine Sols is, without exaggeration, one of the best Metroidvanias I’ve ever played.
The combat is excellent, with parrying at its core, making every fight incredibly satisfying. The difficulty is high (especially in the boss fights), and it’s no exaggeration to say that you might need as many as 4–5 hours to learn a fight. But that’s also where the magic lies: the moment you finally take down a boss that’s been destroying you for hours is unique.
The atmosphere, art style, music, and especially the story are also very strong, managing to give real weight to the world and its characters.
Nine Sols isn’t an easy game, and it’s certainly not for everyone. But if you love challenging boss fights, PARRY, and want a Metroidvania that truly rewards your persistence, it’s a must-play.
