Description

Herbicide for pre-emergence or early post-emergence control of grassy and broadleaf weeds in olive trees.

Approval number: 70154 / 19-04-2016

Composition:

  • Active ingredient: diflufenican 15% w/w, iodosulfuron-methyl-sodium 1% w/w
  • Safener: mefenpyr-diethyl 5% w/w
  • Adjuvants: 83.76% w/w

Formulation type: Oil dispersion (OD)

Category and mode of action:

Iodosulfuron-methyl-sodium is a systemic, selective herbicide from the sulfonylurea family. It acts by inhibiting the ALS enzyme, oxaloacetate synthase. It is mainly absorbed through the leaves and to a very small extent through the roots, then transported via both xylem and phloem. A few days after spraying, the growth of the targeted weeds has stopped, resulting in chlorosis and eventually necrosis.

Diflufenican inhibits carotenoid biosynthesis causing intense discoloration or bleaching of young weeds. The fastest results are achieved after pre-emergence application on young weeds. The reddish-purple coloration of the foliage often observed after application is the result of stress caused by the lack of carotenoids. Subsequently, the young weeds die. Diflufenican is mainly absorbed through the roots but also from the foliage of young weeds.
