Please note that it does not support the Pinlock mechanism, so internal anti-fog or fog-resistant visor inserts cannot be installed.

Shell and protection

The shell is made using thermoforming and a special polymer blend, with varying thickness at different points. This design is intended to provide the right balance between impact protection and low weight. The helmet weighs 1,310 g in size Medium according to ECE standards and 1,430 g according to DOT standards.

Inside, multi-density EPS is used, with a different configuration for each helmet size so that energy absorption is adapted to the areas where it is needed. The inner and outer surfaces are designed to reduce the effects of oblique impacts, while the special construction of the EPS and inner lining helps reduce the rotational accelerations transmitted to the head.

Chin Area Protection

Alpinestars has developed a dedicated testing standard for the chin area of the SM3, with requirements that exceed those of the certification standard. To meet these requirements, both the shell thickness and the helmet structure in the chin area have been optimized to provide enhanced impact protection.

The visor release system features a patented mechanism designed to release the visor when a predetermined force is applied, helping to reduce the forces transferred to the neck during an impact.

Ventilation

The 10 air intakes and 7 exhaust vents ensure increased airflow and effective heat dissipation, helping maintain a comfortable temperature inside the helmet during intense riding.

Comfort and fit

The liner features removable cheek pads and 3D-shaped foam for a comfortable fit. The cheek pads and crown liner are available as genuine replacement parts in different thicknesses, allowing you to tailor the fit to the shape of your head.

The liner is made using recycled materials, helping reduce the product’s environmental footprint.

Practical Functions

The helmet features an Emergency Release System, allowing the cheek pads to be removed safely and easily while the helmet is still being worn. Hydration system tube loops are integrated into the cheek pads for easy access while riding.

The fabric chin strap is 25 mm wide for a secure and comfortable fit, while the stainless steel D-rings ensure a stable and secure closure.
