Description

The beloved trilogy by Paul Auster, a postmodern take on detective and noir fiction, in a graphic novel by three outstanding creators.

It all started with a wrong number…

From its iconic first release, The New York Trilogy blurred the lines between postmodern literature and noir. Now, for the first time, all three of its books have been adapted into this landmark graphic novel—each by a different artist, and all under the supervision of Paul Auster himself before his death.

In The Glass City, in the style of David Mazzucchelli, a crime fiction writer is drawn into a real case stranger than anything he has ever written; in Lorenzo Mattoti’s Ghosts, a detective is hired to follow a man, but the case is so incomprehensible that he goes mad; and in The Locked Room by Paul Karasik, the project’s artistic director, another writer hopes to overcome his creative block by investigating the disappearance of his childhood friend.

All three artists make the most of the books they adapt—books that defy genre classification and playfully combine literature with pulp—resulting in a groundbreaking and enjoyable illustrated version of a modern classic.

WRITTEN BY THE AUTHOR

  • A classic that we will all be reading from now on. Guardian
  • The cinematic black-and-white depiction of Auster's postmodern detective novel is an undeniable masterpiece. Observer
  • This much-discussed volume was worth the wait. Publishers Weekly
  • Like David Lynch meeting Raymond Chandler in Manhattan… as much as it shakes you, it hypnotizes you. Buzz Mag
