Description

Description

Among all the secular scientific fields that have encountered Orthodoxy, it seems that the psychological sciences undoubtedly prevail in public discussion. The realm of the human psychic world continues to be a subject of interest and to provoke fruitful public debates.

Today, after the widespread acceptance of psychological sciences in the Orthodox Church and their integration into theological curricula, clerical training, ecclesiastical dialogue, parent and student groups, publications, conferences, etc., we can hardly realize the long and often painful journey that had to be traveled to reach such a convergence, nor the accumulated cost caused by the delay of a productive encounter. Whether we like it or not, the Orthodox Church was the last among the major Christian confessions to lift its reservations, after the progressive Protestants and Catholics.

Obviously, this delay must be attributed to the general suspicion of Orthodox Theology towards the modern scientific explosion.

Orthodox believers have the right to explore how one can be truly faithful amid a culture no longer inspired by the Church. The encounter between Orthodoxy and psychological sciences thus gains existential significance and emerges as a crucial issue for the identity of the individual.

This book attempts a journey through all that has been written by Orthodox authors in eight languages!
