This work attempts to gather, summarize, and investigate the prerequisites of mission work based on the Holy Bible, the teachings of the Church Fathers, ecclesiastical history, missionary experience, and theological articles and manuals.
Within the contemporary reality of suffering, displacements and exclusions, multiple manifestations of inequality and relationships of domination, moral confusion, and spiritual darkness, as Orthodox Christians, we are obliged – as the "salt of the earth" – to respond actively to the problems of our times, intervening in favor of justice, giving both those near and far the message of repentance and salvation, and bearing witness to the truth of the God-Man Christ to every person, of every color, nation, language, and tribe.
All that this work wishes to highlight is summarized in the following prayer of Saint Silouan of Athos: "Lord, grant me to weep for myself and for the whole world, so that all peoples may know You and live forever with You. Lord, make us worthy of the gift of the humble Holy Spirit so that we may comprehend Your Glory. My soul is possessed by a great desire: may the mercy of the Lord embrace all people, so that the whole world, all peoples may learn with what tenderness the Lord loves us as His dearly desired children. Lord, give all the peoples of the earth to know Your love and the sweetness of the Holy Spirit, so that they may forget the pain of the earth, abandon all evil, cling with love to You, and live peacefully, doing Your will for Your own glory."
