Description

Pietà addresses a painful and overwhelmingly urgent issue: the personal and collective trauma of femicide, the ultimate act in the hierarchy of gender-based violence.

The performance takes a difficult journey through the paths of loss, grief, and also rebirth. Through the sharp yet comforting language of theater, Pietà transforms the stage into a space of mutual care, assertion, and public memory. Activating an experiential approach that leverages the political power of emotion, it touches on what is silenced or distorted in public discourse (the denial of the political, gendered dimension of femicide, the patriarchal view of the female body as property, the role of the family in fostering gender-based violence, the reversal of responsibility through efforts to blame and insult victims), paying tribute to victims of femicide and all women and femininities out there.

Pietà was created with the invaluable contribution of an artistic team composed exclusively of female actresses and creative professionals. It was inspired and guided by five women - mothers who experienced the ultimate loss, the murder of their child: Kula Armoutidou (mother of Eleni Topalouki), Eleni Kremastiotis (mother of Eratou Manolakele), Katerina Koti (mother of Dora Zachariou), Alexandra Maku (mother of Geryfyllia Psarrakou), and Roza Fotiadou (mother of Sofia Savvidou).
