The scientific revolutions of Copernicus and Galileo's discoveries in the 16th century documented the movements of the Earth and other planets around the Sun. These discoveries paved the way for the Enlightenment movement, which first appeared in England at the end of the 17th century and reached its peak in France during the 18th century, with the philosopher Voltaire as one of its main representatives.

The Enlightenment, a movement of intellectual and political change, rejected all authority, critiqued existing knowledge, and embraced reason and science as the only reliable means to interpret the world. It believed that humankind could continually progress. The ideas of the Enlightenment led to the creation of Secret Societies such as the Freemason Order of the Knights Templar, the notorious Illuminati, the Freemasons, the Greek Philiki Eteria, the Decembrists in Russia, and the Carbonari in Italy.

Brilliant names from the fields of science, arts, and letters were members of these societies. In Prague in 1787, three great historical figures of the era, all initiated Freemasons, met. Their collaboration and contributions to music and literature left an indelible mark.

These figures are the genius composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the Italian Giacomo Girolamo Casanova known for his libertine lifestyle, and Lorenzo Da Ponte, librettist who, together with Mozart's divine music, united their talents and gifted us everlasting musical masterpieces. Their lives reflect the customs of 18th-century society and, in their own way, contributed to shaping the social and cultural history of the Age of Enlightenment.
