In general, I am satisfied with the Lenovo ThinkPad USB4 Dock 5000. It is a sturdy and reliable docking station, with many connectivity options and good build quality.
However, the installation and proper setup caused us quite a bit of trouble. We use it with a Lenovo Legion, which does not support USB4/Type-C 4, so we cannot fully take advantage of the dock’s capabilities. At the same time, we encountered several problems during startup and with connecting the displays via HDMI. In the end, we had to use a DisplayPort cable so that the system would work more stably.
Another drawback is that, although the docking station has its own power supply, when the computer is turned off it does not provide power to the connected accessories. For example, a Xiaomi lamp connected to it does not stay on, something I would have expected to be possible from a dock with its own power supply.
We bought it with the expectation that, since both the computer and the docking station are Lenovo, there would be better compatibility. Nevertheless, the results were not as good as we expected, especially given its relatively high price. An older Baseus, which cost about a third as much, performed most of the basic functions just as effectively.
Overall, it is a reliable and well-made product, but its price is not fully justified, especially when used with a computer that does not support USB4/Type-C 4.
