The discussion on late modernity and postmodernism is a discussion that remained unfinished – just as modernity and modernism, according to many thinkers, were programmatically left incomplete.

Our focus in this book concerns the correlations, sometimes convergences, of the aesthetic and the political in late modernity across a series of major fields of philosophical discussion such as, among others, ethics, historicity, difference, otherness, representation, subject.

Our main references are Jean-François Lyotard and Jean Baudrillard, alongside less known in Greece postmodern philosophers such as Gianni Vattimo and Michel Maffesoli. In terms of critical assessment of the postmodern, the leading voices remain Fredric Jameson, Terry Eagleton, and David Harvey.

At the level of field research, aesthetic and political practices from the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries, which could be situated within the otherwise obscure and fluid framework of postmodernism, are recorded and discussed.

Ultimately, the recurring question is formulated as follows: does the postmodern establish a new, distinct relationship between the aesthetic and the political through the new meanings it assigns to each? Or does it remain a mere rehash of relativism that has haunted philosophy almost since its beginnings?
