The political, social, and economic life of Latin America in modern times is often characterized by "magical realism." Iason Pipinis traveled to Colombia to investigate the actions of the notorious leader of the powerful Medellín cartel, Pablo Escobar, as well as the phenomenon of drug trafficking.

He visited Chile, Argentina, and Paraguay and recorded unique documents and testimonies about the secret Operation Condor, carried out by dictator Augusto Pinochet and five other Latin American dictators in 1975, to eliminate thousands of dissidents.

Latin America has made significant progress, both in strengthening democracy and in economic development. However, the rise in crime, political violence in certain countries, and the prolonged crisis in Venezuela remain open wounds for everyday life on the distant continent.

The book is prefaced by Mr. Nikos Dendias, who refers to Greece's approach to Latin America, a policy he also served as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2019 to 2023.
