This book gathers texts by the author from the last decade, mostly unpublished. Most of the contents relate to the dictatorship of April 21, 1967, as well as to the Left during the same period.
Recently, the 50th anniversary of the fall of the April dictatorship was celebrated, along with other commemorations: the 50 years since the coup d'état and the split of the KKE (1968), the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall (1989), and the 50th anniversary of the Polytechnic uprising. These anniversaries renewed interest among historians and the broader public in these events.
It is natural that these events especially concern the generation that experienced them – including the author – and feel the need to remember and reevaluate their experiences.
The volume contains 16 articles. It begins with two pieces on national anniversaries, commemorating 200 years since 1821 and 50 years since the transition to democracy. Following are articles related to the dictatorship, resistance, and the Left: discussing the role of Americans during the dictatorship, the relations between the dictatorship and communist regimes, the split of the KKE in 1968, and the crisis of the KKE (Interior) in 1972-1973.
There are also book reviews and commentaries related to that era. The third part examines the collapse of European communism, with an article on the "Balkan 1989," along with a piece on Greece-Soviet Union economic relations during the Cold War.
The book closes with four obituary texts dedicated to friends and comrades of the author whose lives were connected to the themes of the book.
