The ROYAL LOUIS model is a highly detailed modeling figure that has been reconstructed based on documents from the Historical Naval Service in Paris. The design of the hull, the distribution of artillery, and the equipment were derived from a plan by Count von Estaing, dated September 25, 1772.
The construction design was drawn up by Mr. J.B. Olivier, known for his naval architecture. The Royal Louis was a first-class tall ship, equipped with:
- 120 cannons, of which 32 were 36 caliber
- Each weighing nearly 5 tons
It had a length of 68 meters at the waterline and a total length of 96 meters, with the main mast reaching a height of 74 meters from the keel to the platform. During the years 1779-1780, the Royal Louis was the flagship of the Blue and White Squadron, which belonged to the American Squadron under the name Count von Estaing.
