Monk Matthaios Vatopaidinos (1774-1849) is a prominent figure in the field of chanting tradition. He was a skilled interpreter of ancient notation.
His work established him as one of the most significant bridges in the transition to and from the roots of our ecclesiastical music notation, especially after the Three Teachers, particularly in the large and slow compositions, such as those of the Mathematarion.
He interprets Lessons from older sources (Chrysafi, Balasiou, Bereketi, Germanos Neoi Patras, etc.) and composes new pieces comparable to the older ones, without hesitation, musically placing them alongside these in his manuscripts.
