Pari Petridis's photographs capture the silent yet eloquent presence of animals in the modern world. They are mute witnesses to environments created by humans. Whether in abandoned landscapes and empty cities or in peaceful corners of Greek countryside, animals are forced to adapt to the consequences of human activity.
Petridis's images invite us to look beyond the surface: to recognize animals not as a backdrop, but as creatures that coexist, experience, and struggle to survive within environments shaped by humans. The series explores our ambivalent relationship with non-human beings – sometimes selective care and sometimes indifference, exploitation, and cruelty.
“Petridis is an animal lover. Of course, not in the conventional sense. He is also a viewer’s observer. And again, not conventionally. The two sometimes converge: Petridis discusses animals, meets them, and photographs them. The absence of people from his work makes these animals more present. Their presence thus becomes, at the same time, a witness to another absence.” - G. Stavrakakis
