Description

Cardamom (or kakoule or cardamom) is the dried fruit of a plant that belongs to the ginger family. It is one of the most expensive spices and has been known since ancient times to stimulate the appetite. The strengthening properties of cardamom are recognized, and the plant is associated with an increase in sexual desire in men.

It has a distinctive taste with a strong aroma. It is cardiotonic, diuretic, and expectorant. Its most well-known property is enhancing digestion. Additionally, this spice is particularly beneficial for the liver. It has a bitter and sweet taste, slightly lemony, and is very aromatic.

It is mainly used in salads and cooked vegetables. In Arab countries, a little cardamom is added to coffee for better flavor, while in Africa it is used in tea. It is also one of the ingredients in curry powder. The seeds are used whole in pickles and marinades.

Cardamom is preferred in seed form, as it quickly loses its aroma in powder form. The seeds are kept in a well-sealed container and ground just before cooking.

Consumption is prohibited during pregnancy.
