Space Empires 4X is a board game that follows the tradition of 4X space games – eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate. The game is rich in theme with key concepts such as carriers, fighters, mines, cloaking, dreadnoughts, merchant ships, colonization, mining, terraforming technology, shipyards, black holes, warp points, non-player aliens, and doomsday machines.

The number of players ranges from 1 to 4, exploring the random map. Each space sector can reveal 12 different terrains such as asteroids, nebulae, and planets. The terrains affect combat and movement, as well as the development of your empire. Players expand their empire by creating colonies (long-term, stable growth), collecting resources (fast income), and building a merchant fleet (income from trade).

The infrastructure must be immediately exploited to build a naval force from up to 10 different classes of warships and to research critical technologies from 50 levels of advancement. Rival empires come into contact quickly and compete to eliminate each other. At this point, your decisions regarding technology and fleet will be tested. Combat is simple, without complex charts, and rewards proper and balanced fleet construction. Building only the largest ship is not a good strategy. Your fleets will really look like fleets!

There are multiple scenarios for solo players as well as for two players. The multiplayer scenarios offer team game options, including 2 versus 1 in a three-player game. Scenarios can be customized in duration and some can be completed in just one hour. Many aspects of the game can be completed simultaneously by the players, so there is very little downtime. This is a game that can be completed in a single session!
