In his dialogue of Protagoras, Plato narrates and depicts in his characteristic and truly unique, philosophically unmatched and dramatically unparalleled manner, the meeting of Socrates and Protagoras, the leading figure of an esteemed group of sophists, at the mansion of the benefactor Callias; where he visits them while they are all hosted by the host.
The meeting quickly develops into a discussion between the two in front of everyone, which soon takes the form of a disagreement that only temporarily conceals an overarching confrontation between the two men, culminating in a dialectical duel to the death.
Regarding this clash, and almost all aspects of it that have philosophical significance, the main responsible is Socrates, since ultimately his disagreement with Protagoras is not only particularly significant and very serious, but it also arises, as he states just before the end, because, driven by concern for his own life, he is engaged in all these debates.
