The review is made in comparison with the gold standard of whey concentrate proteins, Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard (no pun intended), and as a “power user” since I consume about 100+ grams per day.
TL;DR, I recommend it. More specifically:
1) In terms of price, Gold has become ridiculous, having reached up to €199 (08/09/2026 current €189.9, i.e. €41.78 per kilo) for the 4.53 kg bag. Here, with this one, we are in a good place (08/09/2026 current €28.5 per kilo). Switching from Gold (chocolate, 76% protein by weight) to the present one (chocolate, 70% protein by weight) and assuming a need for 100 grams of protein intake (macronutrient, not powder) per day, savings of about ~€1.43 per day or ~€43 per month are achieved. The extra amount of powder that needs to be consumed from the present one, due to its lower protein content by weight, has been taken into account.
2) Regarding texture, the powder is extremely fine, like powdered sugar, while Gold has a more manageable form. The only negative is that it spills around during preparation, but that’s a minor issue. Worth mentioning is the fact that the powder, due to its “powdered sugar” consistency, turns muddy and thickens quite easily. It needs quite a bit of water in my opinion.
3) Taste-wise, unfortunately Gold is superior, although not by a huge margin. The flavors that led me to this conclusion are the chocolate and cookie flavors of the two companies. The cookie was equal in both, but the chocolate was not. I use them to make Ninja Creami ice cream, and there the small difference becomes apparent. More specifically, Applied Nutrition requires a larger amount of cocoa powder to achieve that deep brownie-like chocolate flavor.
The negatives in the comparison of the two proteins do not automatically mean that the protein is bad or tasteless. It is excellent, certified (informed protein), and economical. I would recommend it with only a very small reservation regarding the taste.
Η κριτική γίνεται σε σύγκριση με το gold standard των whey concentrate πρωτεϊνών Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard (no pun intended), και ως “power user” καθώς καταναλώνω περίπου 100+ γραμ.
