The Askar SQA85 refractor telescope features a five-element, air-spaced apochromatic Petzval optical design and a 400 mm focal length. Its fully corrected field covers a diagonal of up to 44 mm and is compatible with full-frame sensors, with no additional field flattener or reducer required. The optical tube is compact and features a retractable dew shield.

The lens consists of five elements, including two Ohara FPL-53 Super ED glass elements, for color correction, aberration-free images, and high contrast. The optical surfaces have multiple anti-reflective coatings. The 3" Rack & Pinion focuser includes a 360° rotator, a 1:10 reduction ratio, and a high load capacity.
