How is a metallurgical factory socially established in the rural landscape of a Greek community in the early post-war decades? Through what social mechanisms and processes?
Is the extensive activity of the mining company necessarily leading to a radical change in the dominant type of labor from agricultural to industrial? Are the close ties among the community members pushing individuals into the industry for work?
By investigating the social interactions between the community of Larymna and the metallurgical factory of LARCO during the ownership and management period of Prodomos - Bodossakis Athanasiadis (1953-1979), the study highlights the crucial role of industrial labor as a variable that triggers changes in the lives of the workers.
Through the analysis of social networks as they manifest through kinship and localism, the gradual integration of the metallurgical factory into the social life of the residents is presented.
This book is an original micro-sociological study of Economic and Industrial Sociology, which, for the first time, places at the core of its analysis, the parallel development of one of the most emblematic industries in Greece (LARCO) with its closest community, Larymna.
