Charles Nodier, a philologist, writer, lover of natural history, journalist, and more, was a pioneer of the romantic movement in France. Born in Besançon in 1780, he touched both the 18th and 19th centuries.
He wrote captivating short stories, among which is his masterpiece "Trilby or the Goblin of Argyll." He tells us the strange passion of Jenny, a simple boatwoman, for Trilby, the goblin of her hut, moving between dream and reality and "painting" with his pen enchanting scenes within a poetic and mysterious atmosphere.
