In the incredibly exciting journey into the digital world of unlimited choices, immersed in the bottomless oceans of digital virtual experience, we unconsciously overlook that we are natural entities or at least both natural entities and physical bodies. In this text, following interdisciplinary paths, the focus is on issues arising from the complex couplings and assemblages, from the "chaotic" interactions and interpenetrations between the physical body and technological innovation, which may conditionally and circumstantially have negative or positive influences on our life, on our "remote" life, on the life of Homo algorithmus.
The "natural" body, as demonstrated by the example of the exercise of the "virtual" body (avatar), permeates all levels of reality (physical, artificial, virtual/digital, subjective, objective, etc.) and through the body all levels of reality (physical, augmented, mixed/hybrid forms of reality, etc.) merge and are experienced conditionally and circumstantially sometimes one-dimensionally as a "discontinuum" and sometimes multidimensionally as a "continuum".
To investigate such novel issues in the field of sports and exercise, we are compelled to formulate a novel and complex theoretical framework. We are obligated to reanalyze and, in many cases, (re)consider fundamental terms, concepts, and processes such as: the virtual body (avatar), the exercise of avatars, embodiment, athletic embodiment, the athletic self and virtual athletic identity, the body exercising and social control, couplings and interpenetrations of virtual, social, and biological body, spatiality and temporality of the body in hybrid and mixed dimensions of reality, body ownership and subjective agency, physical/virtual and social presence, the body as representation, physical space, digital space, and the formation of social reality, consciousness-physical body-space, time, and digital experience, etc.
