This book discusses the subject of drilling and focuses on shallow and special drilling. The so-called “shallow drillings” are generally constructed at depths less than 1000m, with extensive coverage also given to geothermal boreholes, which can reach greater depths, with particular reference to geothermal drilling in Greece. There is significant coverage of new non-conventional geothermal drilling techniques expected to be central to the developments during the ongoing energy transition period.

It covers borehole records, problems and challenges of sampling boreholes, submarine sampling boreholes, and environmental sampling boreholes. There is extensive coverage of hydrogeological boreholes, geothermal drilling, and special boreholes. The fluids of boreholes are analyzed, and the theoretical issue of predicting rock permeability is discussed.
