When humans became farmers around 12,000 years ago, they created a new institution, that of the family. This structure, the family, has survived almost unchanged until today. The author notes that after the two World Wars of the previous century, the traditional family structure began to break down. Four successive historical developments caused this change: (1) Women entered the workforce and are now economically independent. (2) The contraceptive pill, together with the condom, disconnected sexual pleasure from fertilization and gave women control over fertility. (3) The increase in life expectancy effectively nullified the value of inheritance. (4) New financial tools now allow many young people to chart an independent path, outside the dictates of their paternal family.
Thus, today, we are witnessing a huge change that causes tremors in every social expression, from parent-child relationships, students and teachers, men and women, to migrants and indigenous peoples. And this is because, simultaneously today, a unique movement of populations is taking place worldwide. Humans, leaving agricultural life, are once again becoming nomads, with no particular homeland.
The book traces the historical course of humanity and describes the fundamental programs inherited in the brain through the process of evolution. It refers to greed, sexual desire, and consumerism, as well as incest. Finally, solutions are proposed for the emerging matriarchy that is inevitably dawning.
