Leonidas: The King of Sparta with arrows, 50cm. Full-body bronze sculpture with Veronese electrolysis, ancient Greece.
Leonidas was the king of Sparta, believed to be a descendant of Hercules. He ascended the throne in 488 BC and took leadership of the allied Greek army, managing to unite them and make them forget their differences. His military intelligence became evident in August 480 BC at the Battle of Thermopylae, where with 300 Spartans and 700 Thespians, he demonstrated brave resistance against the Persians.
Xerxes sent a messenger demanding the surrender of weapons. Leonidas responded with "Molon Labe." After the treachery of Ephialtes, the Greek soldiers, including Leonidas, were killed, and he became a symbol of patriotic self-sacrifice.
