The 16th issue of the bibliophile series "The Naughty Rabbit" has been released by Agra Publications. Two world-renowned authors, at the peak of their careers, engage in a friendly discussion about their legendary heroes, the "villains" in their books, their techniques, their weaknesses, literary critics, as well as the editorial care of their writings and the films that are made from their books.
In 1964, after a golf championship, Ian Fleming met Georges Simenon at his tower in Esantan, his house near Lausanne. The English journalist Gordon Young arranged the meeting and recorded the conversation between the two authors, who created two legends of the twentieth century with their pens: James Bond and Jules Amedee Francois Simenon.
Fleming's black Avanti, a low model with leather seats, red letters on the dials on the dashboard and a top speed of 220 miles per hour, has just arrived at the old tower of Esantan outside Lausanne. The conversation takes place in Simenon's office. The pointed windows of the tower overlook a quiet park; the white walls are sparsely decorated with a few family photographs and a painting by Fernand Léger.
Simenon, in good shape at sixty, sits comfortably behind the desk wearing a white silk shirt, open at the neck, and flannel trousers. The fifty-year-old Fleming, carefully disheveled, wears a crumpled gray sports shirt and a black wool cardigan; he looks like Bond on vacation. Perched on a tall stool is Denise, Simenon's French-Canadian wife.
