Description

The double pink Aquilegia (also known as Columbine or "Granny's Bonnet") is a perennial plant that stands out for its impressive, double flowers in shades of pink. It blooms from late spring to early summer and is particularly favored in traditional gardens. It features multiple layers of petals (double), often without the characteristic "spurs" of other varieties. The flowers can be solid pink or bicolor (e.g., pink with white). It typically reaches 45–60 centimeters in height.

Main features:

  • Flowers: impressive, double in shades of pink
  • Attracts: bees and butterflies
  • Height: 45–60 centimeters
  • Soil preference: rich, moist with good drainage
  • Light: partial shade or filtered light

For optimal growth, choose a spot with partial shade. Soak the roots in a bucket of lukewarm water for 1 to 3 hours before planting. Place the root with the "crown" facing upwards and the long roots downwards. Plant so that the crown lies just below the soil surface (about 1–2 centimeters) and leave about 30–45 centimeters between plants. Regular watering is needed during the growing period to maintain soil moisture.

After flowering, cutting the stems is possible to encourage new foliage or leaving them for seed production.
