Description

This book deals with the politics exercised by the opponents of Eleftherios Venizelos during the period 1915-1917, when they were responsible for governing the country.

It is the era of the National Schism, that is, the conflict between King Constantine I and Venizelos, who had been Prime Minister for five years (1910-1915), regarding the country's participation or non-participation in World War I; a conflict that divided Greek society into two worlds: the Venizelist and the anti-Venizelist.

In particular, the two main characteristics of the anti-Venizelist governments are examined: a) the foreign policy, which was essentially determined by the Palace, b) the attempt to limit the actions of political opponents.

The aim is to understand the anti-Venizelists' argumentation in favor of neutrality, which in their view better served the national interests.

At the same time, the book attempts to highlight the change that occurred in the internal political scene during that period: the use of violence (either with the tolerance or the guidance of the government) as a means of imposing political views.
