The theatrical play "Voice in the Wilderness" is a historical drama in five acts, inspired by the life of Saint John the Baptist and his dramatic confrontation with Herod and Herodias, as well as by the iconic Dance of the Seven Veils performed by Salome, symbolizing desire, power, and sacrifice.
Although not a religious text, it draws its dramaturgical foundation from Gospel writings and church tradition, while also engaging in dialogue with world literature and drama, such as Gustave Flaubert's Herodias and Oscar Wilde's Salome. Written in a lyrical, poetic language of high intensity, it explores the arrogance of power and the human choice in relation to it.
The action unfolds around six hero-symbols of the past who serve as transcendent mirrors for today's individual, reminding us that change arises through awareness, responsibility, and action. At the same time, it sheds light on the position of women in a deeply patriarchal system, highlighting their needs, vulnerability, and strength.
This theatrical work premiered in Greece in February 2026, in Athens, and later toured across the country.
