The REDARC Smart Start® SBI12D battery separator is a microprocessor-controlled battery isolator device used in dual battery systems. It is designed to protect the starting battery from overdischarges, functioning as a priority system for solenoid operation.
The SBI12D provides 12 volts DC with a continuous current of 100A.
Dual Detection
The dual detection model is used to isolate the starting and auxiliary batteries in a system where the auxiliary battery can be charged from an external source, such as a solar panel or an external AC charger. The SBI12D also allows the starting battery to be charged from the external source when the auxiliary battery reaches 13.2 volts, which is useful for refreshing the starting battery.
Energy-Saving Technology
The Smart Start SBI12D includes electronic components that prevent the solenoid generator from producing high voltage. It is better than a standard diode-type battery isolator due to the voltage drop associated with diode isolation. It features complex fault detection and an LED indicator to warn users of faults such as overvoltage, voltage drop, and excessive current consumption.
Primarily used in 4WD and commercial vehicles, the Smart Start SBI is a safe way to charge an auxiliary battery and should often be installed with a quality safety kit.
