Pressured by debts, Bolívar, an experienced fisherman, sets out with his boat on the Pacific, despite warnings of severe weather. Out of necessity, he takes along as an assistant the only willing companion, the young Hector.

The storm breaks out, and they quickly find themselves lost at sea. Without any means of communication and with little hope of rescue, they are forced to struggle not only with the waves but also with themselves and the things that haunt them.
