Description

"I did not come because I pity them. I came because I admire them."

Christos Georgalas, Professor of Head and Neck Surgery, found himself in Gaza for the second time, at Nasser Hospital, as a volunteer for one month in the spring of 2025.

This book consists of notes he kept and photographs he took while living and working at the largest active hospital in Gaza, April and May 2025. More than a first-person account of a genocide, it is a tribute to the strength and beauty of the people of Gaza and its healthcare workers, the true heroes of this story.

The proceeds from the book will be donated to MAP – Medical Aid for Palestinians and March to Gaza Greece.

I cannot understand how any person, let alone doctors—people who are supposed to have dedicated their lives to the protection of human life—hesitate to even publicly condemn the genocide in Gaza, to protest the murder and torture of thousands of their colleagues and the slaughter of over 20,000 children, at a time when our government considers Israel a 'strategic ally.' Fortunately, there are people like Mr. Georgalas who care enough to be willing to risk their lives in order to help. However, I wish we never reached the point where this would be necessary and that we had enough real people so that we would not need heroes.
Disheartening but necessary reading, the book.
