Latin America has historically been a site of enforcement and plunder for the United States, a space where the mechanisms of American imperialist power have been tested and perfected. That is why the establishment in Washington has historically presented it as a "backyard," a zone of control and pillage.
The book seeks to highlight the integral nature of American foreign policy on the continent, from the Cold War to modern forms of hybrid, economic, and military warfare. Its focus includes certain timeless historical examples of interventions (both covert and overt), culminating with the US military attack on Venezuela and the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro on January 3, 2026.
Special emphasis is given, among other things, to the new phase of American aggressiveness, where Trump strips imperialism of its pretenses of "democratization" and "humanitarianism." Political upheavals, social resistance, and the strengthening of new international economic and geopolitical ties reveal the limits of American domination in Latin America.
A number of countries challenge Washington and seek paths toward greater political and economic independence. Within these fissures, a true "window of opportunity" opens for the peoples of Latin America to break the historical cycle of dependence, claim their wealth, and chart a course of dignity. However, this path will neither be easy nor linear.
