Description

From the Foreword: This is the first time that episodes from the history of Kochertürn are being presented to a wider public in the form of a book. This required extensive and often very time-consuming research. However, we did not start our investigation from scratch, as many individual documents on various topics of our local history are stored in the archive in Neuenstadt, mainly collected and created by Engelbert Mager (*1912 - 2000), who was a teacher at the elementary school in Kochertürn from 1950 to 1961.

We not only uncovered this treasure in the municipal archive but also conducted research in the state archives of Stuttgart and Ludwigsburg, in the diocesan archive of Rottenburg, and very frequently in the state archive of Neuenstein. In the process, we were able to discover new information, such as the family tree of the von Kochertürn lineage or the tragic attack on the population of Kochertürn by Italian soldiers during Christmas 1546.

We have researched diligently and carefully; what we have written is supported by facts. Our contributions do not claim to present the history of Kochertürn comprehensively. We also received much information from contemporary witnesses who brought the history to life for us in an informative and moving way.

Our accounts begin with the oldest surviving records from the history of Kochertürn and end in the last century, in the 1970s, with the exception of the history of clubs and companies. We hope that this book will have a continuation describing the more recent history of Kochertürn—but we leave that to the next generation.
