Malifaux is a distorted mirror of an alternate Earth in the 1900s, filled with Gothic horror, Victorian structures, steampunk constructions, and gunfighters of the wild west. This almost unbreakable world is full of dead unions, disturbing ghosts, and other alien entities lurking in the dark. Its flooded lands are still worth tending, as the Soulstones found deep within caves are more valuable than the effort and blood required to obtain them.
The creations that humanity has called Neverborn are the indigenous inhabitants of Malifaux. Some are the deformed descendants of the original inhabitants of the world, while others are nightmares created through strange curses or magically enhanced evolution. Many Neverborn believe that humanity must be eradicated, but those rare ones who believe they have a significant role in the larger machines of this world. Time will tell.
These hardy men and women seek existence free from the law and oversight of the Guild and their peers. Outcasts often become spoiled or mercenaries, selling their services to the highest bidder. They frequently associate with powerful figures, taking on dirty jobs others avoid… or seeking their own paths to power.
