The computer was bought for office work and CAD. Because it had to meet specific specifications and I didn’t want to get involved with ordering individual parts, I chose the solution of a workstation from a well-known manufacturer. I had bought Dell in the past and was not satisfied with the build quality, and I couldn’t find an equivalent HP, so I went with Lenovo.
The positives are that it is relatively small and quiet (not that you couldn’t build something similar yourself), and its processor seems to perform better than the average for its series in the CPU-Z benchmark. But that’s where the positives end.
The processor is cooled by a heatsink that belongs to the era of the first i3s. It is so weak that after 29 seconds of stress test it has already reached 100 degrees and throttles to avoid burning up. In the very short CPU-Z test this doesn’t affect it much, but if you want to use it with demanding applications, forget it.
It has 4 free SATA slots but only two proprietary power connectors on the motherboard. Also, the package only includes one such special cable to power an extra drive, and you have to find where to order the other one from since it is not common.
The power supply is only 500W (at least it is platinum) and gives you only one PCIe power cable in case you want to connect a more powerful graphics card, while falsely stating that it has 750W.
The memory is single channel, meaning it came with only one 32GB stick, which obviously greatly reduces the computer’s performance.
It also has 2 M.2 slots, but these are not screwed onto the motherboard; they are hanging in the air outside it and you have to support the drives in some magical way that only Lenovo knows (as shown in the photo).
Finally, the photo shows a DVD-RW drive, while it doesn’t even have one.
At the 2000€+++ it asks for, this is not acceptable. Do yourself a favor and buy something else or build something yourself.
