Instructions for use and maintenance of cast iron cookware:
- Preparing cookware: Before first use, wash the cookware with warm water and dish soap, rinse and dry. Coat the cookware with olive oil on all sides (interior, exterior, handles) and place it upside down on a baking sheet in the oven, at a high temperature for one hour. Let it cool inside the oven. This process helps create a protective layer that prevents rust and food sticking.
- Cleaning: It is recommended to clean the cookware with salt and warm water, using the rough side of a sponge or half a lemon. Avoid chemicals or detergents that may be absorbed by the cookware.
- Maintenance and storage: Coat the cookware with olive oil before each storage. If the cookware has a lid, avoid closed storage to allow ventilation.
- Rust removal: Warm up the cookware and scrub it with the rough side of a sponge. If rust remains, soak the cookware in a solution of 50% water and 50% vinegar, then clean again. You can also scrub the cookware with a cut potato. After removing rust, seasoning is necessary.
